MACON – The Mercer men's tennis team will continue its three-match home stand on Monday when the Bears suit up to battle Southern Conference rival The Citadel at the LeRoy Peddy Tennis Center. Admission is free.
Fans unable to make the trip to Middle Georgia can still follow the match in progress via a live results link provided by the MU athletics department.
Winners in four of their last five matches, the Bears (5-10, 2-1 SoCon) are fresh off a 4-3 upset win over 75th-ranked Alabama State on Saturday in Macon. The Hornets rolled into Macon sporting an 11-match win streak, but the Orange & Black captured the key doubles point, and then took three singles matches in straight sets to fuel the final outcome.
Senior Samuel Barrow will look to keep his perfect conference clip intact, having registered a team-best six singles victories during the spring campaign, including an unblemished 3-0 mark against SoCon foes. Barrow has been key in doubles play as well, registering a 2-1 clip against league competition alongside his No. 3 doubles partner, Samuel MacLeod. The senior duo is 6-7 overall across all spring duals.
The Citadel (7-17, 1-3) has dropped three of its last four outings, but two of those outings have come against top-40-ranked teams in Georgia and Georgia Tech. The Bulldogs are 4-13 this season in true road matches as well.
Senior Teo Carlov has enjoyed a bulk of the individual success for The Citadel in the spring as evidenced by a team-best 10 singles victories, including a 2-2 mark inside SoCon play. Senior Hayden Shoemake has been solid as well while compiling nine wins at No. 1 singles during the dual campaign. Shoemake has also teamed up with senior Sebastian Kamieniecki to record nine wins at No. 1 doubles.
