ATLANTA - The Mercer Bears took a 4-3 lead into the seventh inning, but could not hang on and fell 6-4 to the Georgia State Panthers on Wednesday.

Senior Reid Fagerstrom (1-1) took the loss on the mound for Mercer (9-4). Sophomore Jess Ackerman was a bright spot out of the bullpen, going one shutout inning without allowing a hit, walking none and striking out one.

Senior Brandon Prince led the way offensively for the Bears, going 2-for-5 in the ballgame with two doubles and a RBI. Junior Parker Lester compiled a standout performance at the dish as well, going 2-for-3 with a walk and an RBI. Junior Jackson Cherry also contributed, going 1-for-3 for Mercer with a walk and a RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Bears were trailing 1-0 in the third inning when they first put runs on the board. Mercer got an RBI single from Lester, scoring Prince from second base.

The score stayed at 1-1 until the fifth inning, when the Bears put runs on the scoreboard once again. which brought the Bears lead to 4-1. The Bears were unable to hold the lead, as Georgia State scored five times over the remaining four innings to grab the 6-4 win.

GAME NOTES
» Mercer's power output was led by Prince, who had two extra base hits in the ballgame.
» Mercer went 2-for-6 (.333) with runners in scoring position.
» Mercer pitchers faced 37 Georgia State hitters in the game, allowing nine ground balls and eight fly balls while striking out five.
» The Bears drew five walks from Georgia State pitching.
» Georgia State was led offensively by sophomore Brennan Hudson who went 2-for-2 with a home run and two RBI.
» Junior Caleb White led the Panthers pitching staff, throwing four innings of one-run ball.
