MACON, Ga. - The Mercer women's tennis team dropped its home match to Furman, 6-1 on Tuesday afternoon from the LeRoy Peddy Tennis Center in Macon.
In the doubles matches, Furman's Maeve Thornton and Grace Thomas defeated Mercer's Tea Zivic and Mariella Minetti, 6-1. Furman won the doubles point after Jess Dawson and Sara Snyder defeated Teodora Ristic and Kristin Yordanova, 6-3.
The last doubles match did go to the Bears as Lea Falentin and Emilia Cosatto defeated Ellie Schulson and Macy Hitchcock of Furman, 6-3. It marked the second conference doubles win for the duo this season.
In singles play, Furman's Sara Snyeder defeated Ristic, 6-4, 6-0 on court one. Then, Furman's Maeve Thornton and Lea Falentin went three sets with Thornton prevailing, 7-5, 6-3, 1-0 (10-7). Furman's Macy Hitchcock won her singles match over Tea Zivic, 6-4, 6-2 to clinch the match for the Paldins.
Furman's Grace Thomas won her match by defeating Mariella Minetti, 6-2, 6-3.
The last two singles matches went three sets. Marissa Pennings of Furman came from behind to defeat Lekha Varudandi, 5-7, 6-2, 1-0 (10-1). The Bears closed out the day with a win on court three as Emilia Cosatto defeated Ellie Schulson of Furman, 6-4, 3-6, 1-0 (10-6).
Up next for Mercer is another home match on Saturday against UNCG. The match will begin at noon.
