Mercer Cruises To 25-3 Win Over Gardner-Webb

MACON, Ga. - Kayla Soltys had 16 draw controls and Gabby DiVirgilio scored five times as the Mercer Bears rolled to a 25-3 win at home over Gardner-Webb on Wednesday evening.
The Bears were in control from the start and never looked back. Mercer had a season high 47 shots to Gardner-Webb's 11.
Mercer had its best performance in the draw circle this season as the Bears won 25 of 31 draw controls in the game. Soltys highlighted the performance in the draw circle with a single-game program record, 16 draw controls.
DiVirgilio had five goals and three assists for an 8-point evening. Caroline Glus and Maddi Koury also had strong games as Glus had three goals and one assist and Koury, four goals and two assists.
Three Mercer players also scored their first career goals as freshman Reaghan Lomascola, sophomore Meira Liberman and senior Ally Gibb all scored.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Mercer quickly jumped out to a 3-0 lead with Soltys and DiVirgilio combining for all three goals. Gardner-Webb made it 3-1, but Mercer wouldn't allow another goal until late in the second quarter.Â
DiVirgilio completed her hat trick in the first quarter and Koury scored her second goal of the game in the final minutes of the first quarter as Mercer led 8-1. DiVirgilio, Glus, and Koury all scored two goals in the opening nine minutes of the second quarter as the Bears opened up a 14-1 lead. Gardner-Webb scored two goals right before halftime to make it a 14-3 game at the half.
Lomascola scored her goal to make it 18-3, followed by a goal from Gabby Brisbin with two seconds before the end of the third quarter to make it 19-3 after three quarters.
In the fourth quarter, freshman Harmony Hall scored her second goal of her career followed by Liberman's first career goal as the Bears eased to a dominant win.
