MACON, Ga. - The Mercer women's soccer team announced its 2024 schedule on Tuesday afternoon featuring 20 matches with nine games in Southern Conference play and 10 overall fixtures set to be contested in Macon at Betts Stadium.
The Bears will play two exhibition matches at Tennessee Tech on August 4 and at home against Auburn on August 7Â before its season opener. Mercer opens its regular season at Kennesaw State on August 15.
The home opener is set for August 19 at 6 p.m. against Berry College. The game against Berry is the first of three straight home matches for the Bears as Troy (Aug. 22) and UNC Asheville (Aug. 25) will also make the trip to Macon in non-conference matchups.
After road games at Georgia Southern and North Florida, the Bears will return home for its longest homestand of the season. Mercer will play four consecutive home games in September beginning with Big Ten foe Illinois on September 8. It will be the first all-time meeting between Mercer and Illinois and the first Big Ten opponent for the Bears since Indiana visited Macon in 2009.
The SoCon opener for Mercer will be the last game of the four game homestand as Furman comes to Betts Stadium on September 19. Mercer will then go on the road to take on the reigning SoCon champion Western Carolina Catamounts on September 22. That will be followed by a trip to ETSU on September 28, who defeated the Bears in the SoCon Tournament quarterfinals last season in Johnson City, Tennessee.
After home games against Chattanooga and VMI to begin October, the Bears will close out the regular season with three of its final four games on the road with those road trips being UNCG (Oct. 11), Samford (Oct. 17), and Wofford (Oct. 27) to close the season.
Mercer enters the 2024 season with a number of returning starters from last season including the top two leading goal scorers in the SoCon from a season ago in junior Jada Moorman and sophomore Larkin Thomason. The duo will look to build on their outstanding 2023 All-Conference seasons and lead the Bears' attack.Â
