Mercer held Troy without a shot on goal in the game
MACON, Ga. - Mercer used three first half goals scored within a 15-minute span to earn its third win of the season on Thursday night as the Bears defeated Troy, 3-0 from Betts Stadium.
Lindsay Bell picked up her second consecutive shutout despite not having to make a single save all night. Mercer's defense was excellent all night in not allowing a single shot on goal from Troy as the Trojans had just four shot attempts.
Sophomore Larkin Thomason got the scoring started for the Bears in the eighth minute when Chandler Lewis-Jenkins sent a ball over the top that Thomason ran under and chipped the Troy goalie for her first goal of the season.Â
Less than five minutes later, a Mercer corner kick taken by Kendall Cook found the head of Maria Karipidis who headed home her second goal of the season to double Mercer's lead at 2-0.Â
Mercer's third goal of the game was perhaps its best as in the 21st minute Bachman dribbled down the right flank and crossed a ball to Cook who settled it and passed it across the 6-yard box to a wide open Jada Moorman for a tap in goal.
The Trojans found a little more footing in the second half, but the Bears had the better of chances, hitting a couple of crossbars but were unable to find a fourth goal.

TOP BEARS |
+ Larkin Thomason got the scoring started for Mercer and came closest to scoring for the Bears in the second half when she took a great shot that hit the crossbar + Anna Bachman was busy all night long down Mercer's right side joining in the attack and sending numerous dangerous crosses into Troy's box. + Emily Duncan earned the GRIT chain as the forward ended up playing some midfield and did a good job of tracking back and defending for Mercer. + When you hold your opponent to no shots on goal, you know you had a good game and Mercer's back line and midfielders played well for 90 minutes and gave the Trojans little space to get shots off. |
NOTABLES |
+ Mercer has held each of its first three opponents to no more than four shots in its respective game. + Kendall Cook has four assists through the first three games. + Bachman has at least one point in each game this season. + Mercer's three goal win is tied for its largest margin of victory in the all-time series against Troy. |
