South Florida leads the all-time series 2-1. This marks the third consecutive season in which the teams have played, with the Bulls winning in 2022 and the Bears winning last year by a score of 2-0. The first meeting came in 2012, a 1-0 victory for South Florida. All meetings have taken place at Corbett Stadium in Tampa.Â

Mercer dropped its season opener to 19th-ranked UCF on Thursday by a score of 3-1. The Knights jumped out to an early lead, scoring first in the 16th minute before converting a penalty kick in 21st minute to go up 2-0. After taking the lead into the break, UCF scored again in the 50th minute to stretch the lead to three. Sekou Agard scored the first goal of the season for the Bears in the 88th minute off of a Woodi Pondeca free kick, but it would not be enough as UCF secured the 3-1 win.Â
Thursday's contest saw the collegiate debut of three Bears, highlighted by 49 minutes from freshman Aaron Pondeca. Sophomores Sam Brokopp and Ken Senghore also saw the field for the first time in their collegiate careers.Â

Last season, South Florida finished with a 6-9-1 record with a 2-4-1 mark in the American Athletic Conference.Â
Like Mercer, the Bulls dropped their season-opener to a ranked opponent on Thursday, losing 4-1 against #23 Seattle. The Redhawks took a commanding 3-0 lead early in the first half en route to the win. Asher Jones scored the lone goal for South Florida.Â
In 16 games last season the Bulls scored 21 goals and allowed 26. South Florida's leading returning goal scorer is Pedro Faife, who scored two goals in his freshman campaign.Â
