
Bears Battle Back To Earn 2-2 Draw At Georgia Southern

Moorman and Thomason each scored for Mercer
STATESBORO, Ga. – Trailing 2-0 at halftime, Mercer battled back to earn a 2-2 draw on the road at Georgia Southern on Thursday evening from Bo Pitts Field.
The Bears tied the game in the 84th minute when Larkin Thomason was found inside the penalty box. Thomason stepped up to the spot and placed her penalty kick into the right side of the goal to tie the game at two.
Mercer had the better of chances throughout the game and outshot Georgia Southern 17-9, including a 10-4 advantage in shots on goal.
Both of Georgia Southern's goals came within a two minute span in the first half. The Eagles scored in the 20th and 22nd minute to put Mercer in its largest deficit of the season.
The Bears played well in the second half, nearly doubling their first half shots of six to 11 shots in the second half. In the 58th minute Lena Dykes took a throw in to Thomason who flicked it down the sideline to Kendall Cook who sent a perfect cross into the box to Moorman who one-touched it into the side netting to cut the deficit in half.
Thomason nearly found the equalizer in the 78th minute before her penalty kick when her header was deflected off the fingertips of the Georgia Southern goalie and hit the post.
Thomason's game-tying penalty kick goal was her team leading fifth goal of the season.
