LOME, Togo – Mercer newcomer Hod'Abalo Isak Padio teamed up with Togo teammate Thomas Setodji to register a 7-6 (7-5), 6-1 in doubles play and key the host country to a big win over Latvia in opening-round Davis Cup action on Saturday in the African nation.

The Davis Cup is run by the International Tennis Federation (ITF) and is contested annually between teams from over 150 competing countries, making it the world's largest annual team sporting competition. It is described by the organizers as the "World Cup of Tennis", and the winners are referred to as World Champions.

The 12 winning countries in the World Group II ties will now advance to 2025 World Group I Playoffs which will be played in early February.
