Alex Holt led Mercer with 11 points
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Alex Holt led Mercer with 11 points on what was a tough shooting night as a team for the Bears as Wofford defeated Mercer 69-49 Saturday night from Jerry Richardson Indoor Stadium in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
Holt had 11 points on just six field goal attempts to go with four rebounds. Brady Shoulders came off the bench to score eight points to go with a team high eight rebounds.
Each team did a good job taking care of the ball as Mercer had just nine turnovers and Wofford seven. Points in the paint were nearly even as the Bears had 24 paint points to Wofford's 26.

HOW IT HAPPENED
1ST HALF
Wofford jumped out to an early 10-4 lead just minutes into the game. A layup from Marcus Overstreet gave Mercer a 19-18 lead with just over six minutes to play. After another layup from Overstreet stretched Mercer's lead to 23-20, Wofford would go on to close the half on a 6-0 run to take a 26-23 lead into halftime.
2ND HALF
A jump shot from Jah Quinones brought Mercer within five points at 37-32 less than five minutes into the second half. Shoulders scored five consecutive points including a three-pointer to make it a 43-37 game.
Wofford would then go on a 10-3 run to take a double-digit lead at 53-40 with just over seven minutes to play. The Bears got within eight following a layup from Tyler Johnson, but Wofford held off a late Mercer run and earned the 69-49 win on their home court.
NOTABLES
+ Mercer held Wofford to its second fewest points scored in its six conference games this season.
+ The Bears have now had fewer than 10 turnovers in two of their last three games.
