
Robinson's Career Night Guides Mercer To Comeback Win, 79-78 At UNCG

Mercer erased a 23-point first half deficit in the win
GREENSBORO, N.C. – Ahmad Robinson scored 33 points including two clutch free throws with 7.5 seconds to play to help guide Mercer to a 79-78 win over UNCG Wednesday night from First Horizon Coliseum in Greensboro, North Carolina.
The win snaps a four-game losing streak for the Bears and Mercer becomes the first team to hand UNCG a loss on its home court this season as the Spartans entered the game 7-0 on their home court this season.
After trailing by 13 points at halftime, Mercer outscored UNCG 44-30 in the second half. The Bears had their way in the paint where they outscored the Spartans 38-16.
Robinson scored a career high 33 points on 10-of-19 shooting along with six assists, five rebounds, and five steals. Tyler Johnson had 17 points and seven rebounds. Marcus Overstreet had a huge second half for the Bears scoring all 13 of his points in the second frame and he also pulled down five rebounds.

HOW IT HAPPENED
1ST HALF
Back-to-back layups from Alex Holt and Brady Shoulders gave Mercer an early 13-6 lead. A layup from Angel Montas Jr. put the Bears up 17-14. Then, UNCG found its rhythm offensively and went on a 22-0 run to take a 36-17 lead. A jumper from Johnson made it 44-25 with just under three minutes to go in the first half.Â
The Bears closed the half on a 14-4 run and found themselves down 48-35 at halftime. Johnson finished the half leading the Bears with 14 points.
2ND HALF
Johnson knocked down a mid-range jump shot to get the Bears within single digits at 50-41. UNCG went back up by 14 points after a three-pointer from Kenyon Giles to make it a 63-49 game.
Mercer trailed 67-54 heading to the under-8 media timeout. Overstreet then asserted himself on the offensive end, scoring eight straight points for the Bears. Then a pair of free throws from Robinson brought Mercer within four at 69-65 with four minutes to play. The Spartans' Ronald Polite III made a three-pointer to put UNCG up 76-70 with two minutes to play.

The Bears forced a UNCG turnover on the following possession and Robinson got fouled driving to the basket with 7.5 seconds to play. He made both free throws to give Mercer a 79-78 lead. UNCG advanced the ball to the frontcourt and called timeout with 4.3 seconds to play. The Spartans missed two shots before the final buzzer as Mercer completed the 23-point comeback to earn the road win.
