
Women's Tennis Closes Out Tournament At Georgia Southern

MACON, Ga. -Â The Mercer women's tennis team wrapped up its second tournament of the fall season at the Georgia Southern Fall Shootout in Statesboro, Georgia.
Three of Mercer's doubles teams went 3-0 in the tournament.
One of them was Marina de Diego Quinones and Sofiya Tsitavets went 3-0 in the tournament. The pair defeated Erika Olson and zzy Antanavicius of Emory, 6-2. Then earned a dominant 6-1 win over Evelyn Warkentin and Angelina Mihajlovic Georgia Southern. Their last win came against Ema Baraniakova and Sofia Madrid of Kennesaw State, 6-4.
Also going 3-0 in doubles was Marie Bannmeyer and Jelena Gojkovic. The pair defeated Danica Nedeljkovic and Tuhina Sumbus of South Carolina State 7-6 (5). Then they had a strong performance winning 6-0 against Ema Baraniakova and Irene Serrano of Kennesaw State. Their last win came against Georgia Southern's Amelie Rosadoro and Angelina Mihajlovic, 7-5.
The other Mercer's duo to go 3-0 in doubles was Antonia Schweigel and Valentine Talaki. They started off by defeating Dorsa Cheraghi and Tabeth Tadoum of North Carolina A&T, 6-2.
Then, they came away with a 6-4 win over Amelie Rosadoro and Alice Bolton of Austin Peay. Their last match was a 6-1 win over Georgia Southern's Mackenzie Leopold and Nanaka Kijima.
In singles action Marina de Diego Quinones (Mercer) played a very competitive match against Ema Baraniakova of Kennesaw State. Ultimately, de Diego Quinones won in a three set thriller, 1-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-8). Thn, de Diego Quinones won her next singles match against Cassandra Lecoanet of South Carolina State 6-2, 7-5.
Valentine Talaki won both of her singles matches. First she earned a 6-3, 6-4 win over Dana Livson of Emory. In her next match she defeated Irene Serrano of Kennesaw State 6-4, 2-6, 1-0 (10-6).
Four of Mercer's other five players went 1-1 in their singles matches. Tea Zivic, Jelena Gojkovic, Marie Bannmeyer, and Antonia Schweigel all went 1-1 in their singles matches.
Next up for the Bears is the ITA Regional Championships in Macon from October 16-20.
