Weekly Recap
Mercer (3-7-3, 1-0-1 SoCon) is 1-1 in its last two matches. Last Saturday, the Bears had a nailbiting 5-4 victory over SoCon rival Wofford. Junior Casillas, Fernando Arteaga and Bryce Griffith lit up the score sheet with performances that have not been seen in years.
Griffith's three assists tied Roberto Arteaga, Joey Heavner and Ryan King for the fourth-most in a single match in Mercer's history. Casillas and Fernando Arteaga each finished the contest with a brace, the first time two Mercer players have recorded one in a single match since 2021.
A Look at the Bucs
ETSU (1-6-4, 1-1-0 SoCon) enters Saturday night's tilt after a week of rest. The Bucs lost 3-2 to Furman last weekend despite Jaime Carrillo's three-point night. ETSU's sole win on the season came in its conference opener against UNC Greensboro.
Carrillo is the leading goal-scorer for the Bucs. The junior midfielder has three goals in his first season after transferring from UTRGV. Berkay Duman is ETSU's only other multi-goal scorer with two goals coming in conference play.
Emil Holmberg, a freshman from Norrkoping, Sweden, has played every second of the season between the posts for the Bucs. Holmberg has faced 145 shots across his 11 starts, saving 47 and maintaining a 1.64 goals against average.
