
Bucs Big Block Shuts Down Mercer

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. - The Bucs used their home court advantage to put up 22 blocks against Mercer, defeating them 3-0 on Tuesday night in J. Madison Brooks Gymnasium to remain undefeated in Southern Conference play.
Freshman outside hitter Charlotte Thompson and sophomore outside hitter Sophia Henry led the Mercer offense with a combined 15 kills on the night. Sophomore setter Sammi Bergjans tallied 14 assists and a service ace and sophomore libero Aubri Martin recorded a match-high 16 digs.
The Bears will close out their road trip in Chattanooga on Wednesday, October. 22 as they take on the Mocs in a 6 p.m. conference match up inside Maclellan Gym. The match will be streamed on ESPN+.

SET 1 I 17-25Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â | Both squads battled for the first half of set one with eight tie scores and four lead changes until the Bucs started to pull away at the 17-13 mark after back-to-back kills from ETSU. The Bucs continued to add points until they took the set out of reach at the 20-13 mark. | |
SET 2 I 17-25 | The second set was similar to the first in that Mercer did not let ETSU gain more than a four-point lead until the last few points of the set. The Bucs capitalized off of a few Mercer errors to win set two. | |
SET 3 I 18-25 | ETSU carried the momentum into set three taking an early 6-1 lead over the Bears. Mercer battled back to come within three points at the 13-10 mark after a kill from Destiny Nelson but it was not enough to stop ETSU's fast-paced offense, resulting in a Mercer loss. |
