
Henton And Nutzman Named To SoCon All-Freshman Team

MACON, Ga. - Mercer women's soccer freshmen Kelsie Henton and Payton Nutzman were named to the Southern Conference All-Freshman Team as announced by the league office Thursday evening.
Henton, a forward from Fayetteville, Georgia, played in all 17 regular season games for the Bears while starting 14 of them. She finished with two goals and three assists for seven points.
In Mercer's win over Gardner-Webb on Sept. 7, Henton scored her first career goal and had her first career assist for a 3-point game. In Mercer's following game against Winthrop, she had were first game with multiple assists with two in a 4-2 win for the Bears. Henton also scored the game-winning goal in Mercer's 2-0 win at VMI.
Nutzman, a midfielder from Greenville, South Carolina, started each of Mercer's first 13 games of the season before suffering a season-ending injury in the Bears' win at VMI on Oct. 5.
Nutzman led all SoCon freshmen with 19 points on the season which ranked fifth overall in the conference. She had seven goals and five assists before her injury.
Nutzman scored her first career point in Mercer's second game of the season, assisting on the game-winning goal in a 1-0 win over West Georgia. Nutzman had an outstanding game on Aug. 31 at Alabama State where she registered seven points on the day with three goals and one assist. Nutzman also scored a fantastic game-tying goal in her first conference game as a Bear in Mercer's 2-2 draw at Furman on Sept. 18.
The Bears are set to take on ETSU on Friday at 4 p.m. from Cullowhee, North Carolina in the SoCon Tournament Quarterfinals.
