MACON, Ga. - The Mercer volleyball team picked up its first win in Southern Conference play this season after defeating The Citadel 3-0 Saturday night inside Hawkins Arena. Mercer's victory came in a full-team effort out-hitting the Bulldogs by more than ten kills and hitting .309 on the night.

Sophomore libero Aurbi Martin posted a double-double with 18 digs and 10 assists in the victory. Sophomore outside hitter Sophia Henry led the offensive effort with 10 kills followed by Charlotte Thompson who added eight kills and Joselynn Sanjurjo and Olivia Elliott each contributed seven kills. Sammi Bergjans tallied 12 assists, eight digs and two service aces against the Bulldogs.

Mercer will hit the road to face Wofford on Friday, Oct. 10 in a 2024 SoCon Championship rematch at 6 p.m. in Spartanburg, S.C. and close out the trip with a match against UNC Greensboro on Saturday, Oct. 11 at 6 p.m. in Greensboro, N.C.

MATCH REPLAY
SET 1 I 25-17	The Bears took an early lead and ran with it, not letting The Citadel within five points after the 10-7 mark. A service ace from Sophia Henry and a Bulldogs error secured the set-one win for Mercer.
SET 2 I 25-22	Both squads exchanged points until the Bears started to pull away at the 14-10 mark after a kill from Charlotte Thompson. The Bulldogs then fought back to tie the match 22-22 but Mercer was able to put together a few points to force a must-win third set for The Citadel.
SET 3 I 25-16	Mercer continued to take control of the momentum in set three and did not let up on the Bulldogs, taking a 10-4 lead. The Citadel was never able to catch up and the Bears secured their first win of conference play.
