Masuda Advances To Finals At Mercer Gridiron Classic

MACON – Sophomore Shingo Masuda nearly turned in a championship run through his flight at the annual Mercer Gridiron Classic over the weekend, but Sunday's afternoon rainfall halted the sophomore's unblemished weekend despite a 3-2 lead in the third round of the championship bout.

Regardless, Masuda still paced the Bears with a 3-0 mark in singles action at the John Drew Smith Tennis Center in north Macon. The Orange & Black combined to register eight victories in singles action at the event, including a pair by junior Esteban Davila Gasser as well.

Newcomer Alex Aldaz teamed up with senior Amen Prince Gandonou to pace the Bears on the doubles courts at the annual event. The tandem posted a 3-1 mark across the weekend in doubles action, including a convincing 6-2 win over Chattanooga's Cortland Grove and Martin Delnido.

The Bears will continue the fall portion of their 2025-26 schedule beginning on Wednesday when they head to Gainesville, Fla., for the ITA Regional Championships at Florida's Alfred A. Ring Tennis Complex.
