Atkinson, Bannmeyer Earn Mercer Student-Athlete Of The Week Honors

MACON – A perfect weekend on the tennis courts, as well as a record-tying performance on the football field, proved to be even more fruitful on Wednesday when freshman Braden Atkinson and sophomore Marie Bannmeyer were named the Mercer Student-Athletes of the Week for the week ending October 5.

A product of Rolesville, N.C., Atkinson matched a 6-year-old school record with five touchdown passes in the nationally-ranked football team's 45-21 win over visiting Samford. The first-year signal caller threw for a season-best 365 yards on 22-of-35 passing with no interceptions, while also adding a 2-yard rush as well.

Bannmeyer, a native of Paris, France, tallied an unblemished 7-0 mark at the Mercer Gridiron Classic over the weekend, including a 3-0 clip in singles competition. She also teamed up with senior Tea Zivic in posting a 4-0 championship run through doubles play. Her run to the singles title was stopped by Sunday afternoon thunderstorms.
