SERIES HISTORY
Saturday's game will be the 25th all-time meeting between Mercer and VMI. Mercer leads the all-time series, 20-4, with the Bears winning each of the last six, including a 70-67 win on Jan. 4 in Lexington, Virginia.
LAST TIME OUT
Ahmad Robinson led led Mercer with 17 points, but the hot-shooting Furman Paladins defeated the Bears, 96-72 on Wednesday night from Bon Secours Wellness Arena in Greenville, South Carolina.
Mercer shot 29-of-64 (45.3%) to Furman's 31-of-63 (49.2%), but a big difference in the game was the Paladins connecting on 18-of-36 three-pointers compared to the Bears who shot 7-for-18 (41.1%) from deep.
NEED TO KNOW
Saturday's game features the first and third leading scorers in the SoCon in conference play in Mercer's Ahmad Robinson (1st - 18.0 ppg) and VMI's Rickey Bradley Jr. (3rd - 17.8 ppg).
SCOUTING VMI
VMI enters Saturday's game with an 12-14 record, including a 6-7 mark in conference play. The Keydets are 6-3 in their last nine conference games. VMI is coming off an 80-54 thrashing on the road to UNCG.
VMI has struggled on the road this season as they are just 4-9 in games played away from Lexington. VMI ranks fifth in the SoCon in scoring offense at 74.7 points per game and tied for fifth in the SoCon in scoring defense at 71.9 points per game.
The Keydets don't take or make many three-pointers as they average the second fewest made three's per game in the conference at 8.3 per game. VMI's leading scorer is Rickey Bradley Jr. who's 15.5 points per game ranks tied for seventh in the SoCon.
