Mercer Heads To Virginia Tech For First Away Game Of Season

Game scheduled to begin at noon from Blacksburg
MACON, Ga. - The Mercer women's lacrosse team is set to play its first away game of the 2025 season on Saturday afternoon at Virgnia Tech. First draw is set for noon inside Virginia Tech's indoor facility, the Beamer-Lawson Indoor Practice Facility.

SERIES HISTORY
Saturday will be just the third all-time meeting between Mercer and Virginia Tech. Mercer won the first all-time meeting between the teams in 2022 in Blacksburg, when Mercer came away with an 11-8 victory. Last year, the Hokies defeated the Bears in Macon, 21-8.
LAST TIME OUT
The Mercer women's lacrosse team couldn't get enough shots past South Florida's goalie who had an excellent game in Mercer's season opening 11-8 loss at home to USF last Tuesday from Five Star Stadium.
Both starting goalies for each team played well, as both offenses got off to slow starts with just one goal scored in the first quarter.
Mercer outshot the Bulls 39-28 with a 25-19 shots on goal advantage. However, the Bears scored on just eight of their 25 shots on goal as USF's goalie, Paige Pagano made 17 saves for a save percentage of 68.0 percent. Abby Morrison, Ansley Walters, and Sami Lowinger each led Mercer offensively with two goals.
SCOUTING VIRGINIA TECH
Virginia Tech is 1-1 so far on the season. The Hokies started the year with a strong 15-7 win at VCU. Virginia Tech then lost on Wednesday at home to No. 18 James Madison 15-11. The Hokies led 8-1 in the first quarter, but were then outscored 14-3 the rest of the game in their first loss of the season.
In the 2025 Preseason Coaches Poll, Virginia Tech was picked to finish ninth in the 12-team ACC. The Hokies went 9-9 last season.
Through the first two games of the season, Virginia Tech is averaging 13.0 goals per game and allowing 11.0 goals per game. They are averaging just 18.0 shots on goal per game which so far ranks last in the ACC.
The Hokies have started fast in their first two games of the season as they are outscoring their opponents by a combined 13-3 in the first quarter. Virginia Tech is winning 43.9 percent of draw controls this season.
Virginia Tech's leading goal scorer is midfielder Lauren Render who has 11 goals to go with two assists. No other player on the Hokies has more than three goals on the year.
