MACON – The men's and women's tennis teams will make a rare tandem home appearance on Thursday when the Bears nestle in to take on visiting Queens in a 10 a.m. morning/afternoon doubleheader at the LeRoy Peddy Tennis Center. Admission to all 2025 Mercer Tennis home matches is free.
The Mercer women's tennis team (2-6) will engage in action for the second-straight day after making a trip to Statesboro on Wednesday to battle Georgia Southern. The MU men (3-4) have captured two of their last three outings, including a 4-3 comeback win over North Florida on Sunday in Macon.
The Queens women's tennis team (1-7) has dropped seven of its first eight outings of the season, but did notch its first win of the campaign on February 14 against Montreat College at home. The Queens men (2-6) toppled UNC Greensboro, 5-2, on February 9 before, likewise, registering a win over Montreat at home. They have since dropped home outings to Furman and James Madison.
Thursday's matchups at the LeRoy Peddy Tennis Center will mark the initial meetings in both series between Mercer and Queens.
Newcomer Jelena Gojkovic has paced the Bears in the spring with a trio of singles victories, including two at the No. 6 position, while freshman Marie Bannmeyer still paces the squad with nine singles wins across the entirety of the 2024-25 season. MU's pair of Bannmeyer and graduate transfer Dzhastina Mikhnova have recorded three doubles wins during the spring – one at each of the three doubles positions.
Junior Nemanja Stefanovic and newcomer Hod'Abalo Isak Padio boast a team-best 12 singles victories apiece on the men's side, with Stefanovic also boasting a team-best four singles wins during the spring portion of the campaign. On the doubles courts, Padio and fellow newcomer Amen Prince Gandonou have teamed up for 16 doubles wins, including four across the 7-match-old dual schedule.
