MACON – The Mercer men's tennis team will close out the road portion of its 2025-26 regular season schedule on Tuesday when the Bears pack up their show and head to Birmingham, Ala., to take on Southern Conference nemesis Samford at the Pat M. Courington Tennis Pavilion. Start time is scheduled for 2 p.m.
Â
The Bears (8-11, 3-2 SoCon) will ride a four-match win streak into the Heart of Dixie, including a 4-3 win over visiting Wofford on Saturday morning at the Copelan Tennis Complex. The Terriers knotted that match up late at three apiece, but MU got a big win from junior Alex Aldaz on Court No. 5 to extend its winning skein. Hod'Abalo Isak Padio boasts a team-best 18 singles victories, including three inside SoCon play, but fellow senior Nemanja Stefanovic has won 10 of his last 12 singles outings, including a 4-1 clip against league foes.
Â
The Bears have won the doubles point in three out of their last four outings, including a clean sweep of doubles action against Chattanooga on March 29 at home. The Padio/Stefanovic tandem has compiled an 11-4 mark in doubles action this season, and will carry a four-match win streak into Tuesday.
Â
The Bulldogs (13-6, 5-1) are rolling despite falling on the wrong end of a 4-3 home decision with league-leading East Tennessee State on Sunday. Samford has also captured seven of its last eight matchups in Birmingham, with its only home losses coming at the hands of ETSU and Southeastern Conference rival Ole Miss. Samford has captured the doubles point 16 times this season, led primarily by the exploits of tandem of Lukas Dvorak and Cooper Errey who have won 13-straight contest at No. 3 doubles.
Â
Junior Sebastian Harrison boasts a team-leading 12 singles victories, including a 9-4 mark on Court No. 3, while Errey is 10-3 with half of his singles wins coming on Court No. 3. Senior Darcy Nicholls is 8-4 in the No. 2 position.
Â
Samford leads the all-time series with the Bears, 11-6, and will carry a three-match series win streak into Tuesday's outing. The Bulldogs have won six of the last seven meetings with MU, including a 4-3 triumph in Macon last year, as well as a 4-0 decision in the 2025 SoCon Tournament.
