
Mercer Handles Kennesaw State At Home, 20-4

Sofia D'Angelo scored a game high 5 goals to pace Mercer offensively
MACON, Ga. - Sofia D'Angelo scored a career high five goals and the Mercer women's lacrosse team picked up its first win of the season at home over Kennesaw State Wednesday evening from Five Star Stadium.
The Bears wasted no time jumping on Kennesaw State early, scoring five goals in the first five minutes of the game in part of an 11-goal first quarter to quickly take control of the game.
Mercer outshot Kennesaw State 39-9, including a 34-8 shots on goal advantage. The Bears were excellent in the draw circle where they had an 18-9 advantage. The Bears had half as many turnovers as the Owls as Kennesaw State had 18 turnovers to just nine for Mercer.
D'Angelo - a transfer from Loyola - scored a career high five goals on seven shots to go with one caused turnover. She was one of eight Mercer players to score in the game.
Caroline Glus and Sami Lowinger also had five point games as Glus had four goals and one assist and Lowinger two goals and a game high three assists.
Abby Morrison had a game high seven draw controls to go with two goals. Defensively, Mercer had nine caused turnovers with eight different players causing at least one turnover. Kennesaw State was just 10-for-16 on clears.
Kayla Casey got the start in goal for the Bears. She played the first half and allowed just one goal while making four saves for an 80.0 percent save percentage.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Mercer started fast by scoring five goals in the opening five minutes to take an early 5-1 lead. Glus scored two of the first five goals for the Bears.
D'Angelo scored her hat trick in the first quarter as she scored her third goal of the game with just under one minute to play in the first quarter to give Mercer an 11-1 lead after the first 15 minutes of action.
Mercer outscored Kennesaw State 4-0 in the second quarter with each goal scored by a different player. The Bears would then take a commanding 15-1 lead into halftime.
Mackenzie Ward entered in goal for the Bears to start the second half. The Owls scored the first two goals of the third quarter to make it 15-3, Mercer. D'Angelo scored her fifth goal of the game and Glus her fourth for Mercer's two goals in the third quarter as Mercer led 17-3.
In the fourth quarter, Maya Maldonado scored her second goal of the season and Reaghan Lomascola scored her third and fourth career goals as the Bears cruised to a 20-4 win at home.
