SERIES HISTORY
Wednesday's game will be the 112th all-time meeting between Mercer and Samford. The Bears lead the all-time series, 66-45. In the first meeting between the teams this season, Samford edged out Mercer 75-74 at Hawkins Arena.
LAST TIME OUT
The Bears took a seven-point lead into the locker room at halftime at Chattanooga last Saturday, but a Mocs rally in the game's final 11 minutes proved to be the difference as the Bears fell 93-84.
Four Bears scored in double figures in the contest, with Ahmad Robinson leading the way with 19. Freshman Brady Shoulders had one of the best games of his young career, tying a season-high with 14 points on 5-6 shooting, including 4-5 from three-point range. Marcus Overstreet continued to go to work on the glass, grabbing 11 boards in his second-consecutive double-digit rebound effort.
NEED TO KNOW
Samford (83.7 ppg) and Mercer (79.7 ppg) boast the SoCon's top scoring offenses this season. Ahmad Robinson had a big night in the first meeting between the Bears and Bulldogs this season, scoring 29 points, while Tyler Johnson added 20 of his own in the last-second loss.
SCOUTING SAMFORD
Samford enters Wednesday's game with an 18-5 record and sits atop the SoCon standings with an 8-2 mark in conference play. The Bulldogs are currently ranked 9th in CollegeInsider.com's mid-major top 25. Samford most recently defeated The Citadel 83-58 on the road on Saturday.
The Bulldogs have been especially difficult to beat on their home floor over the past two seasons. After going a perfect 18-0 at the Pete Hanna Center a season ago, Samford started the 2024-25 season 10-0 at home before seeing their 28-game home winning streak snapped by ETSU on January 18. The streak was the second-longest in the country before it was halted.
The Bulldogs feature a balanced scoring attack with four players averaging more than 10 points per game. Trey Fort leads the way with 14.1, while Jaden Brownell follows close behind at 13.8.
