
Bears Host College Of Charleston, Gardner-Webb This Weekend

MACON – The Mercer men's tennis team will resume the spring portion of its 2024-25 schedule this weekend when the Bears engage the College of Charleston in a Friday afternoon tilt at the LeRoy Peddy Tennis Center, before battling Gardner-Webb at home on Sunday morning. Admission to all 2025 Mercer tennis home matches is free.

Friday's 2 p.m. matchup with the College of Charleston (0-1, 0-0 CAA) will mark the first action for the Orange & Black since a 7-0 setback at perennial Southeastern Conference powerhouse Georgia nearly three weeks ago. The Cougars are 3-0 all-time in the series with the Bears (0-2, 0-0 SoCon), but Friday's contest will mark the first meeting between the two squads since Feb. 4, 2012, in Macon.

Gardner-Webb (3-1, 0-0 Big South) has won three of its first four spring matchups heading into Sunday's 11 a.m. tilt with the Bears, and are 2-1 against Mercer in a series that dates all the way back to the 2006-07 athletic season. The Runnin' Bulldogs snapped a two-match series skid with a 5-2 triumph in the last matchup between the squads on Jan. 24, 2015, in Boiling Springs, N.C.

Newcomer Hod'Abalo Isak Padio, who made a return to the states this week after competing for his native Togo against India in the Davis Cup over the weekend, sports a team-best 11 singles victories heading into the weekend, while junior Nemanja Stefanovic boasts nine of his own. The 67th-ranked MU duo of Stefanovic and Fouilhoux have carried the torch for the Bears in doubles play.

The College of Charleston dropped its season opener, 7-0, at then-No. 18 South Carolina in its only action of the season on January 29. Gardner-Webb will ride a three-match win streak into Macon, including road victories against North Florida and Chattanooga, as well as a dominant 6-1 home win over visiting UNC Greensboro on Wednesday,
