AIKEN, S.C. – The Mercer men's golf team finished in a tie for fifth place at the Palmetto Intercollegiate on Tuesday, led by a top-five finish from Nathan Trodd.
After weather suspended play in day one of the event, the tournament shifted to a 36-hole format on Tuesday. Trodd began his day with a 75 in round one, but turned it on in round two with six birdies and an eagle to card a six-under 65 and finish the tournament even. The 65 was good for the tournament's second-lowest round.
Trey Mixon also had a strong showing for the Bears, shooting a 73 in each round to finish in a tie for 13th. Henry Robards, Jacob Uyesato and J.T. Herman rounded out Mercer's lineup with scores of 10-over, 12-over and 16-over, respectively.
Clemson took the team title, shooting three-under for the day. USC Aiken's Oscar Abrahamsson defeated Campbell's Henric Bjelke in a playoff to secure the individual crown.
The Bears will be back on the course next Sunday, hosting the Linger Longer Invitational from March 16-18 at The Landing Course at Reynolds Lake Oconee.
