MACON – The Mercer beach volleyball team will begin another long stretch away from home on Friday and Saturday when the Bears trek to Foley, Ala., for the Sun Belt Mid-Year Weekend at the Foley Event Center.
Mercer (14-6, 1-1 SBC) is scheduled for four matches across the league's two-day event on the Alabama gulf coast. The Bears will open their portion of round-robin play on Friday morning (9 a.m. ET) against the College of Charleston (5-10, 0-1) and will close out Day 1 play with a tilt against Coastal Carolina (8-10, 2-1) at 11 a.m.
The Bears will close out their stay in Foley on Saturday with a noon contest against Louisiana Monroe (7-9, 1-0) and a 2 p.m. match with No. 18 Georgia State (8-13, 2-0).
Still boasting its best start in the 13-plus seasons of the program, Mercer is fresh off of a 4-2 showing at its annual Bears Beach Bash last weekend in Macon, registering a pair of victories against both Jacksonville and Emmanuel, as well as a pair of tight 3-2 losses against SBC-leading UNC Wilmington. MU's No. 4 pair of seniors Kathryn Corbett and Nicole O'Mara logged a perfect 5-0 record across the two-day event.
Following this weekend's action in Foley, the Bears will continue their 12-match stretch away from home next weekend when they head back to Jacksonville, Fla., for the JU Senior Weekend Invite. Mercer is scheduled for four contests at that event, including two rematches with Eckerd.
