
Mercer Gets Key SoCon Test At Furman On Wednesday

MACON – The Mercer men's tennis team will put its unblemished Southern Conference record on the line on Wednesday when the Bears wrap up a two-match road trip against league nemesis Furman on Senior Day at the Mickel Tennis Center. Start time has been slated for 3 p.m.

The Bears (8-6, 3-0 SoCon) will ride a four-match win streak into South Carolina on Wednesday, including key conference wins last week over both East Tennessee State and The Citadel. The Paladins (6-11, 2-1) snapped a six-match skid with a 7-0 shutout of visiting Emmanuel on Saturday.

Furman has owned the 11-year-old series with the Bears, 12-2, and will carry an eight-match series win streak into the midweek matchup with the Orange & Black. Mercer registered 4-3 wins over the Paladins amid both the 2017 and 2018 seasons, but has since suffered a six-year drought. Furman has outscored MU 37-11 over the last eight years, including a 4-3 win in each of the last two meetings.

The Orange & Black is still led on the doubles court by junior tandem Amen Prince Gandonou and Hod'Abalo Isak Padio who have rattled off a 20-9 mark in doubles action this season, including an 8-5 clip during the spring dual meet season. Padio, the reigning SoCon Player of the Week, has raked in a team-best 19 singles wins in his first season in the Orange & Black, including a team-best eight wins on the singles courts during the spring.

Sophomore Walker Allen has compiled a team-best 10 wins across four singles positions for the Paladins this spring, including a perfect 4-0 clip on Court No. 5. FU's tandem of freshmen Nico Snyder and Nicolas Dispas have raked in a team-best 10-5 mark in doubles play during the spring, including a 4-1 showing at No. 2 doubles.
