MACON – The Mercer beach volleyball team will close the lid on the road portion of its 2025 schedule on Friday and Saturday when the Bears load the bus and trek to Jacksonville, Fla., for the North Florida Invite.
The Bears (19-9) are scheduled for four rematches across the two-day event in northeast Florida beginning on Friday at 2 p.m. when they lock horns with Jacksonville (11-13) for the first time this season. Mercer will wrap up Day 1 action at the Cooper Beach Volleyball Courts with a 4 p.m. contest against 17th-ranked North Florida (17-6).
Saturday's schedule is a near-mirror image of opening-day action with MU showing a 10 a.m. contest against Jacksonville and a high noon melee against the nationally-ranked Ospreys.
Mercer is 20-13 all-time against Jacksonville, including a 3-1 mark against the Dolphins in 2025. Jacksonville snapped a six-match series skid with a 3-2 win last weekend as part of JU Senior Weekend. MU recorded a 3-2 victory over the Dolphins on March 1 at the Duuuval Duals, and took both matchups against JU, 4-1 and 5-0, at the Bears Beach Bash late last month.
North Florida has won 28 of the previous 30 matchups with the Bears in a series that dates all the way back to the 2012 campaign and will ride a 17-match series win streak against MU into the weekend. Mercer dropped a tough 3-2 contest against the then-No. 19 Ospreys at the Duuuval Duals.
Mercer's No. 4 pair of seniors Kathryn Corbett and Nicole O'Mara will carry a team-leading 21 victories into Florida this weekend, including a combined 4-1 clip against Jacksonville and North Florida. The No. 5 pair of senior Reese Hood and freshman Grace Rathburn sport 15 victories so far this season.
The Bears will close out the regular season portion of their 2025 slate on Wednesday with a 10 a.m. doubleheader against Wesleyan (0-3-1) at Bear Beach. Admission is free.
