MACON – Mercer won a pair of doubles matches to grab the early team point, then steamrolled their way through singles competition on the way to a 7-0 blanking of visiting UNC Greensboro on Sunday afternoon at the LeRoy Peddy Tennis Center.
Â
It was the sixth-straight win for the Bears (10-6, 5-0 SoCon) who posted their first shutout of a conference opponent since a 7-0 rout at The Citadel on April 7, 2021. It was the third loss in the last four contests for the Spartans (8-12, 2-4) who fell to 0-9 away from Greensboro this season and 0-7 all-time in Macon.
UNC Greensboro's tandem of Andrew Black and Devon Moskowitz set the tone early with a 6-4 victory at No. 3 doubles, but the Bears answered back in a hurry as Marceau Fouilhoux and Nemanja Stefanovic evened up doubles action with a 6-2 rout on Court No. 2, and MU's junior pair of Amen Prince Gandonou and Hod'Abalo Isak Padio finished off a 6-4 triumph in the featured doubles matchup.
Â
It was all Orange & Black in singles play as Stefanovic, Padio and Fouilhoux needed less than 90 minutes to win their singles matches in straight sets and clinch the match for the Bears. The exclamation points were added after that as Gandonou, Howell Burns and Tom Hagelauer all rebounded from opening-set losses with three-set victories.
Â
The Bears will close out the road portion of their 2025 regular season schedule on Tuesday when they trek to Spartanburg, S.C., to take on Southern Conference rival Wofford (6-10, 1-4) at the Reeves Tennis Center. Start time has been slated for 3 p.m.
Â
Mercer will host Samford (15-5, 5-1) in its regular season finale on Saturday at the LeRoy Peddy Tennis Center. The start time for that matchup is scheduled for 11 a.m. and admission is free.
