
Obazughanmwen Medals Twice, Bears 7th At SoCon Championships

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Junior Charity Obazughanmwen picked up a pair of All-Southern Conference accolades with third-place finishes in both the 200- and 400-meter Dash to pace the Mercer track & field team on the final day of the 2025 SoCon Championships on Tuesday.

The Bears compiled 30 more team points on Tuesday at the Samford Track/Soccer Complex to finish 7th among the 10 league squads. The 42 total team points accumulated by the Bears over the two-day event is the most for the squad since tacking up 59 points on the way to a sixth-place team finish in 2021.

Obazughanmwen opened her day by logging a personal-best time (24.60) in the 200m Dash, and then doubled down on her bronze medals with a time of 56.36 seconds in the 400m Dash. Senior Nikki Harris finished just more than 11 seconds away from logging her second all-conference laurels of the event after finishing fourth in the 5000m Run with a mark of 17:23.33.

The 4x100m Relay squad crossed in fourth place with its second-fastest time of the season (47.26), while the 4x400m Relay squad finished in sixth place with a season-best time of 3:59.34.
