MACON – Mercer men's tennis head coach Eric Hayes began to fortify his team in anticipation of its title defense tour on Saturday morning when he announced the addition of transfer Alex Aldaz to the 2025-26 roster.
Aldaz, a native of San Sebastian, Spain, ventures to Macon after playing his freshman campaign at Eastern Illinois where he played a key role as a starter both on the singles and doubles courts for the Panthers. He also listed in the No. 180 position in the Spain rankings by The Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP).
The Spaniard logged a team-best eight singles wins across the first three courts for EIU, including a 4-2 clip at No. 3 singles, as well as a clutch victory in the featured singles match amid a win over Lewis. Aldaz also logged eight doubles victories alongside three different partners, and was listed as high as No. 119 with tandem mate Ludolph Wiggett in the December edition of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) rankings.
A former Regional U18 Basque Country tennis champion, Aldaz competed as part of the 2024 Spanish National U18 Championships before trekking to the United States in August. He also played with the Real Club Tennis de San Sebastian club organization.
