
Mercer To Serve As Home Base For LAFC In FIFA Club World Cup

MACON – Athletics department officials at Mercer University, in partnership with Macon-Bibb County, Visit Macon and the Georgia Department of Economic Development, announced Tuesday afternoon that it will serve as home base for LAFC throughout its run in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup which will be held June 14-July 13 nationwide.

LAFC qualified for the Club World Cup after a thrilling play-in victory over Club America on Saturday in Southern California. LAFC will open its portion of Group D play on June 16 when it takes on famed English Premier League Club Chelsea at Mercedes Benz Stadium in Atlanta. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m.

Macon Mayor Lester Miller, who was on hand for Tuesday's announcement at Heritage Hall in Mercer's  University Center, added that Macon has also been approved as a practice site for next summer's World Cup which is also hosting games in Atlanta. The site has yet to be matched with a team.
