
Men's Golf Receives Platform Golf Team Academic Award for 2024-25 Season

MACON – The Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) announced that the Mercer men's golf team received the Platform Golf Team Academic Award for the 2024-25 season.
The Bears became one of 77 Division I schools that received the Presidents Special Recognition honor after posting a 3.59 average team GPA last year.Â
A GCAA-record 297 schools across six different divisions earned the Platform Golf Team Academic Award while only 132 received the Presidents Special Recognition.
To be eligible for this honor, a team must have an average GPA of 3.5 over higher.
Trey Mixon and Nathan Trodd received College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Men's At-Large nominations for being one of the nation's top student-athletes last season.
Mixon graduated from Mercer with a 3.73 GPA as a risk management and finance double major in 2025. The homegrown product competed in 29 rounds for the Bears and had his best performance of the season at the Palmetto Intercollegiate, finishing 13th individually of 75 competitors.
Trodd is entering his senior season with at Mercer and has maintained a 3.50 GPA while majoring in management. Trodd became a Bear before the 2024-25 season and had an immediate impact.
The Pietermaritzburg, South Africa, native posted a 72.97 stroke average over 29 rounds. Trodd placed third at the Cullan Brown Collegiate and fifth at the Palmetto Intercollegiate where he shot his lowest round of the season, a five-under 65.
Mercer has four new faces on its roster this season, complementing five returners from a squad that ranked 178th of over 300 D1 programs. The Bears open their 2025-26 season on Sept. 7-9 at the GolfWeek Fall Intercollegiate.
