GREENSBORO, Ga. – The Mercer men's golf team concluded the 20th annual Linger Longer Invitational in ninth place of 17 teams at The Great Waters Course at Reynolds Lake Oconee in Greensboro, Georgia on Sunday afternoon.
"Today was not the day we were looking for," said head coach Jason Payne. "However, this tournament was a step in the right direction, and we were able to get closer to playing our best golf as a team. Next up, we have the privilege of competing in the Augusta Haskins Award Invitational and look forward to showcasing our abilities against some elite competition."
Â
Henry Robards finished the Linger Longer Invitational as Mercer's leading scorer with a score of four under par. The sophomore from Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, finished tied for 16th individually and the fourth-best scoring average across all Par 3s.
Nathan Trodd climbed up 15 spots in the rankings after carding an even 72 in the third round of the 54-hole event. Albin Ekvall tied Trodd individually with a score of three over par across the three-day competition.Â
Cole Hanson concluded the Linger Longer with the third-lowest score of the six Bears that competed in the prestigious tournament. The graduate senior finished tied for 57th individually at five over par.
The Bears have nearly two weeks before they compete in the 47th annual Augusta Haskins Award Invitational, an event that showcases some of the best talent across collegiate golf, at Forest Hills Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia.
