
Volleyball Travels to Hattiesburg For Southern Miss Invitational

MACON, Ga. - The Mercer volleyball team caps off their six-game road stretch at the Southern Miss Invitational on Sept. 12-13 in Hattiesburg, Miss. where they will face Mississippi State and the host team, Southern Miss.
The Bears faced Troy on Wednesday night in Troy, Ala. resulting in a 0-3 loss, despite Mercer out-blocking the Trojans 18 to eight. Middle blocker Joselynn Sanjurjo was a brick wall in the front row with five blocks, Olivia Elliott and Sydney VanCott also added four blocks a piece. Sophia Henry led the offensive effort for the Bears with nine kills and Sammi Bergjans and Jessica Dunn combined for 22 assists. Sophomore libero Aubri Martin once again led the defensive effort for the Orange & Black with 14 digs on the night.
Mercer will open up play at the Southern Miss Invitational against the host team, Southern Miss, at 5 p.m.(ET) in the Southern Miss Wellness Center. The Golden Eagles are off to a solid start on the 2025 season with a 4-2 record and three of those wins were a sweep. Southern Miss defeated Lamar, Stetson, Bethune-Cookman and Houston Christian and have losses to Saint Thomas and Northern Illinois. The Bears return on Saturday at 12 p.m.(ET) to take on the Bulldogs of Mississippi State. The Bulldogs are undefeated on the 2025 season with a perfect 7-0 record, including a 3-2 win over Duke on Sept. 10.
The match against Southern Miss will be streamed on ESPN+ and will be ticketed, while the match against Mississippi State will not be streamed or ticketed but will have livestats available to follow.
