SERIES HISTORY
Thursday's game will be the 18th all-time meeting between Mercer and Kenensaw State. The Owls lead the series 9-6-2, however Mercer is on a three-game winning streak including winning last year's season opener in Kennesaw, 2-1.
LAST TIME OUT
Freshman Payton Nutzman scored three goals to go with one assist to pace Mercer offensively in a dominant 6-1 road win over Alabama State Sunday afternoon from Montgomery, Alabama.
Five of Mercer's six goals came in the first half with the Bears scoring twice in the opening seven minutes of the game. In addition to Nutzman's three goals, three other Bears found the back of the net in Marianna Rapani, Hayden Lepley and Maria Karipidis.
SCOUTING KENNESAW STATE
Kennesaw State enters Thursday's game still in search of its first win of the season at 0-3-1 on the year. Kennesaw State was picked to finish eighth out of 11 teams in the Preseason Conference USA (CUSA) Coaches Poll.
The Owls are coming off a 2-2 tie at home against North Florida on Sunday. Kennesaw State has struggled defensively to start the season as teams are scoring on average 4.8 goals per game with all four Kennesaw State opponents having scored at least two goals against them this year.
Offensively it hasn't been much better for the Owls as they are averaging just four shots per game. It took Kennesaw State four games to finally find the back of the net with their two-goal performance against North Florida.
Senior midfielder Raelyn Prince scored the game-tying goal against North Florida. The Owls made a change in goal for the North Florida game, turning to freshman Sara Hill who allowed two goals while making six saves in the game.
