Zaire Williams scored a season high 23 points to help lead Mercer to its fifth straight win, 88-76 over Western Carolina Wednesday night from Hawkins Arena.
SERIES HISTORY
Saturday's game will be the 64th all-time meeting between Mercer and Wofford. Wofford leads the all-time series 36-27. Mercer won the first meeting between the two teams in Macon on Jan. 10, 109-97.
NEED TO KNOW
Mercer shot 71.4 percent from the free throw line Wednesday against Western Carolina. The Bears have shot better than 70 percent from the line in each of their last eight games.
SCOUTING WOFFORD
Wofford enters Saturday's game with an identical record as the Bears with a 13-7 overall record and 5-3 record in conference play. The Terriers were picked to finish ninth in the Preseason SoCon Coaches Poll.
Wofford is coming off an 88-78 win at home over Samford. Wofford is 7-2 at home this season. In conference play, the Terriers ranks second in the league behind Mercer in scoring offense at 85.3 points per game. However, defensively the Terriers have struggled in SoCon play allowing the second most points at 82.6 points per game.
Sophomore guard Kahmare Holmes is coming off a career high 36 points on Wednesday in the win over Samford. Holmes leads the Terriers in scoring at 18.8 points per game which ranks third in the SoCon. Guard, Nils Machowski is leading the conference in scoring during conference play at 23.0 points per game.
Wofford has been the best three-point shooting team in the league in conference play at 42.6 percent.
