Mercer Hosts College Of Charleston Saturday

MACON, Ga. – The Mercer women's tennis team is set to welcome College of Charleston to Macon for the Bears' home opener on Saturday. The match is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. from the Copelan Tennis Complex.

The Bears are coming off a tough 7-0 loss at Clemson on Jan. 16. This season, Mercer, which returned five players, and welcomed three new players to the team, put together a fall campaign that included 35 singles victories, as well as 26 more on the doubles courts. Senior Marina de Diego Quinones returns after earning First Team All-Conference honors last season. In the fall she led the Bears with a 10-3 singles record.

College of Charleston is opening its season on Friday at Georgia Southern before making the short trip to Macon to play the Bears Saturday morning. The Cougars are 3-0 all-time against the Bears and the two teams met last season in Macon, where the Cougars edged out the Bears, 4-3.

Last season, College of Charleston went 16-10 and 4-3 in conference play in the CAA. Junior, Oziera Ahmad returns for the Cougars after a stellar sophomore campaign where she went 17-5 in singles matches and was named a Third Team All-CAA selection.
