Mercer Heads To Palmetto State To Take On Wofford

MACON – The Mercer women's basketball team will play the third leg of its four-game road trip on Thursday morning when the Bears pack up their show and head to Spartanburg, S.C., to go toe-to-toe with Southern Conference rival Wofford at the Jerry Richardson Indoor Stadium. Tipoff is scheduled for 11 a.m.

Fans unable to make the trip to Alabama can still follow the action for free via a live statistics link provided by the SU athletics department. The game is also scheduled to be broadcasted live on ESPN+.

LAST TIME OUT
Visiting Mercer registered just a trio of buckets through the first 20 minutes and was unable to dig its way out of a 21-point halftime deficit on the way to a 68-48 loss at Samford on Saturday afternoon in the Pete Hanna Center. The decision put the kibosh on a three-game win streak for the Bears who committed just two turnovers in the opening half, but countered their ball control with a 3-for-27 shooting effort.

ABOUT MERCER
The Bears (15-10, 5-5 SoCon) boast their most road victories (6) since the 2022-23 campaign and are 7-7 away from Macon this season. Mercer has forced more than 18 turnovers per game in those contests (8.9 steals/game), and has held its non-home opponents to just 65.1 points per game, including a trio of contests in which MU limited its foe to 50 points or less. Senior Nahawa Diarra, who has shot nearly 54 percent (10-for-19) from the perimeter over her last five starts, still carries the torch for the Bears offensively with a team-best 11.5 points per game. Freshman Rania Curry has earned the start in three of MU's last four contests and has responded by averaging 8.3 points per outing on 52.4 percent (11-for-21) field goal shooting.

SCOUTING WOFFORD
The Terriers (14-11, 8-3 SoCon) have now captured eight of their last 10 contests following Saturday's 73-54 win at Western Carolina. Wofford has averaged better than 65 points per game on 40.3 percent field goal shooting across its last 10 outings and is +4.3 in the rebounding column across that span as well. Two-time Southern Conference Player of the Week honoree Gabby Mundy, who has tacked up more than 20 points per game over her last 10 starts, ranks second among league leaders with a 15.6 points per game scoring average, while also chipping in 5.5 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 1.2 steals an outing. Junior Queen Ikhiuwu (13.6 ppg) ranks sixth among SoCon scoring leaders, while also boasting 7.5 rebounds per game (4^th SoCon).

MERCER/WOFFORD SERIES
Mercer leads the 30-year-old series, 21-8, but Wofford has won six of the last seven series matchups with the Bears heading into Thursday's tilt. Six of the last seven meetings have been decided by two possessions or less, including the 67-64 win by the Terriers earlier this season (January 24) in Macon. Wofford downed Mercer, 65-64, when the two last met in Spartanburg, S.C., on Feb. 22, 2025.

Mercer will close out its four-game road trip on Saturday when it makes the short hop over to Greenville, S.C., to take on Furman (16-10, 8-3 SoCon) inside Timmons Arena. Tipoff is slated for 2 p.m.
