Baraka Okojie poured in a game high 22 points, but Western Carolina was able to make one more play than the Bears down the stretch to escape with a 78-74 win over Mercer Wednesday night from the Ramsey Center in Cullowhee, North Carolina.
SERIES HISTORY
Saturday's game will be the 45th all-time meeting between Mercer and ETSU. ETSU leads the all-time series 31-13 and the Bucs have won five straight games against the Bears. ETSU won the first meeting of the season in Johnson City, 77-71 back on Jan. 3.
NEED TO KNOW
Saturday's game features the top scoring offense in the SoCon in Mercer (83.0 ppg) against the top scoring defense in the SoCon in ETSU (68.5 ppg).
SCOUTING ETSU
ETSU is the 2025-26 SoCon regular season champion, with a league best 13-4 conference record entering today's game.
The Bucs are 8-5 on the road this season, but have only lost one conference game on the road.Â
In conference play, ETSU ranks sixth in the SoCon in scoring at 78.1 points per game. Defensively, the Bucs have been excellent this season as they are allowing just 69.2 points per game in conference play which is the best mark in the conference. Only one conference opponent has scored 80 or more points in regulation against ETSU.
ETSU has three players averaging better than 14 points per game, led by guard Brian Taylor II who is averaging 14.5 points per game. In conference play however, forward Blake Barkley leads the team in scoring at 16.1 points per game.
