
Women's Tennis Drops Match To Kennesaw State, 4-1

MACON, Ga. – The Mercer women's tennis team dropped its match Wednesday afternoon to Kennesaw State, 4-1, from the Copelan Tennis Complex.

Starting with doubles, Kennesaw State's Ema Baraniakova and Sofia Madrid defeated Marina de Diego Quinones and Ines Hömberg, 6-2. Kennesaw State earned the doubles point on court three where Maria Ivankovic and Irene Serrano Maestre of Kennesaw State defeated Marie Bannmeyer and Antonia Schweigel, 6-4 in a close back-and-forth match.
In singles action, Sofia Madrid of Kennesaw State defeated Tea Zivic, 6-1, 6-0 on court two. Ines Hömberg earned Mercer's first points on court five where she earned a 6-4, 6-3 win over Kennesaw State's Rianna Ioana Coreisa.
After Kennesaw State's Ema Baraniakova won all six games in the first set, Marina de Diego Quinones played much better in the second set, but ultimately Baraniakova won the tiebreaker in the second set two win 6-0, 7-6(4). Irene Serrano Maestre clinched the match for the Owls on court four with a 6-2, 7-5 win over Marie Bannmeyer.

Mercer will play its first conference match of the season coming up next week on Friday, March 20. The Bears will visit Samford in Birmingham, Alabama with the match scheduled to start at 2:30 p.m. ET.
