Beach Bears Fall To Conference Opponents At Sun Belt Mid-Year Weekend

MACON, Ga. – The Mercer beach volleyball team fell to fellow conference foes at the Sun Belt Mid-Year Weekend in Macon at Bear Beach on Friday and Saturday.

Mercer opened up play with a 5-0 loss to Southern Miss on Friday, March 27 at 11:15 a.m. The duo of Cyleigh Sayler and Finley Kenney took Southern Miss' four slot to a close second set but the Golden Eagles were able to come away with the 24-22 win. The Bears returned to the sand Friday afternoon to face College of Charleston at 1:30 p.m. Sayler and Kenney dominated the fours with a 21-7 and 21-16 win but the Golden Eagles defeated the Bears 4-1 to close out Friday's matches.

The duo of Hollis Engel and Maddie Lee fought back to defeat UNC Wilmington's no. 3 pair 21-19 and 15-6 in the second and third set, respectively but the Cougars were too much for the Bears on Saturday morning, taking the 4-1 victory. Mercer closed out play at the Sun Belt Mid-Year Weekend with a 5-0 loss to Coastal Carolina at 3:45 p.m. on Saturday at Bear Beach.

Mercer will make the short trip to Atlanta to compete in the GSU Diggin' Duals tournament at the Georgia State Beach Volleyball Complex where they will face South Florida, UAB, North Alabama and Georgia State on April 3-4.
