MACON, Ga. – Mercer Volleyball took down The Citadel Bulldogs on Friday night in Hawkins Arena in a three-set sweep.

The Bears were led by freshman Bella Pons, who put an absurd 11 kills on a .526 hitting percentage in her first start of the season. Joselynn Sanjurjo also had a strong night, totaling eight kills on a .438 hitting percentage. Aubri Martin averaged six digs per set to lead the team with 18 on the night. The Orange and Black took control early and never let off the gas, holding an advantage for a majority of the match.

MATCH REPLAY
SET 1 I 25-18	The Bears and Bulldogs started the match with a three-point run each to keep the first set close before Mercer added another three-point run to take a 6-3 lead. The Citadel fought back to tie the match at eight, but the Bears took control, going on a five-point run to establish a significant lead. Mercer extended that lead to nine and kept the Bulldogs from battling back to close the first set 25-18.
SET 2 I 25-21	The Bears and Bulldogs exchanged points early, as the match was 7-6 in favor of The Citadel before Mercer took seven of the next eight points. The Citadel later fought back, and the two teams went toe-to-toe until the Bears closed out the match by taking six of the final eight points to take a 2-0 lead with a 25-21 set two victory.
SET 3 I 25-20	Mercer rode an early five-point rally to take a 9-5 lead in the third set. The Bulldogs put up a four-set run later in the set to regain the lead at 14-11, but Mercer didn't stay down for long, tying the match at 14 apiece. The Bears used a late four-point rally and claimed three of the final four points in the set to win 25-20, securing a 3-0 win over The Citadel.
