- Title:
- Assistant Coach
Mercer University head men's golf coach Kirk Kayden announced the hiring of Chris Murman as an assistant coach on August 3, 2016.
Â
Murman is a PGA Class A Pro and the owner and CEO of Golf Concepts, Inc. Murman is also on the Georgia Golf Course Owners Association Board of Directors.
Â
"We are excited to have Chris on board," Kayden said. "He's been a PGA Class A Pro for a number of years, which will be valuable to the on-course part of the coaching. He also brings a lot of experience in helping players with the mechanics of their swings which will be an asset to the program.
Â
"It was important to hire someone local who has been in the community for more than 30 years. The local knowledge will be valuable to the team, as he is very familiar with the community and golf courses. Chris brings a lot to the table and will greatly help the program."
Â
Murman played golf at the collegiate level at the University of South Florida and has found success on the course throughout his life. He is a three-time Georgia PGA Central Chapter Champion and the winner of the 2016 Mizuno National Pro-Am held at Pebble Beach in February.
Â
"I am proud and excited to be associated with a first-class university and athletics department," Murman said. "I want to thank Kirk for giving me the opportunity to work with this program. I look forward to getting to know and work with the guys this season and to help the program in any way I can."
Â
Murman has been married for 33 years to his wife, Beth. The couple resides in Macon and has a daughter, Cassie Jones.
