One of the first decisions Ryan Danehy made on becoming the Bears' men's lacrosse head coach was to add assistant coach Brian Kingsbury to his staff.Â
Kingsbury comes to Macon after nine seasons as head coach at Lynn University, a Division II school in Boca Raton, Florida. Kingsbury started the men's lacrosse program as the inaugural head coach in 2013. The first NCAA lacrosse coach in South Florida, Kingsbury was twice awarded Sunshine State Conference Coach of the Year, establishing a strong team culture and consistently top twenty program from scratch. Additional accolades include 2019 SCC regular season champions, repeat seasons with the highest D-II team GPA, Conference Player of the Year, and multiple Freshman of the Year award winners.Prior to Lynn, Kingsbury was the head coach at D-II Saint Michael’s College in 2012, leading the Purple Knights to one of their most successful seasons. Saint Michael’s set a school record for wins with an 11-5 record, earned a third seed in the Northeast 10 Conference Tournament and reached a ranking of No. 9 in the nation.Â
For the 2011 season, Kingsbury was the head coach of Castleton State College in Vermont. He guided the NCAA D-III program to winning the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Championship and qualified for the NCAA Tournament. Kingsbury was named the NAC's Coach of the Year and coached the league's Player and Rookie of the Year, and helped Castleton earn the conference's Sportsmanship Award.
Kingsbury was an assistant coach at Castleton for the 2009 and 2010 seasons, helping Castleton earn its first NCAA Tournament berth in 2010. In 2008, Kingsbury was a volunteer assistant coach at NCAA Division I University of Massachusetts, where he was primarily responsible for video editing, scouting and faceoff strategy.
Kingsbury was a three-year scholarship student-athlete at the University of Maryland following a transfer from Hofstra University and graduated from Maryland in 2001 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Sports Management. While at Maryland, the Terrapins made two appearances in the NCAA Division I Quarterfinals, and two appearances in the Atlantic Coast Conference Championship. In 2001, Kingsbury was named the men's lacrosse program's Jack Faber – Al Heagy Unsung Hero Award as a senior, and earned ACC honor roll accolades.
The Severna Park, Maryland native earned his master's degree in education from Castleton in 2010 and was named to the Kappa Delta Pi National Honor Society.
Kingsbury lives in Delray Beach with his dog, Timber. Before coaching, Kingsbury was a class V whitewater river guide in Colorado and West Virginia during the summer, and lived in Park City, Utah during the winter skiing season over 100 days a winter. His passion for coaching lacrosse was re-ignited while coaching youth lacrosse in Boulder, Colo.
