Carlos Santamaria joined the Mercer men’s soccer coaching staff as an assistant coach in the summer of 2026. Santamaria was a two-year starter for the Bears in 2023 and 2024.
The former midfielder made 38 appearances (37 starts) across two seasons in Macon and logged 2,856 minutes in a Mercer uniform. Santamaria, an All-Southern Conference First Teamer in 2024, led the Bears with 13 total points and led the SoCon with seven assists. In Santamaria’s first season in Macon, he appeared in all 21 matches, lifted the SoCon championship and led Mercer to its fifth NCAA Tournament appearance in program history.
Through Santamaria’s two seasons repping the orange and black, he scored 25 points on seven goals and 11 assists. His four career game-winning goals are tied for the ninth-most in Mercer men’s soccer history.
After graduating from Mercer in 2024, Santamaria transferred to NC State where he played a pivotal role in the Wolfpack's run to the National Championship. The sixth-year senior made 22 appearances for the Pack and scored the game-winning goal against Georgetown in the Elite Eight. Santamaria finished the year with two goals and two assists and averaged 54 minutes a match.
Santamaria began his collegiate career at Iowa Western Community College, where he won the NJCAA Division I National Championship in both the 2020-21 and 2021 seasons. Santamaria was tabbed the Region XI Defensive MVP and a member of the Region XI All-Tournament Team before transferring to Oral Roberts.
In his sole season as a Golden Eagle, Santamaria made 14 starts and appeared in all of Oral Roberts’ 17 matches. Santamaria, a member of the All-Summit First Team and Summit League All-Newcomer Team, helped the Golden Eagles lift the Summit League’s regular season title with 11 points (five goals and one assist) and three game-winning goals.
