The dedication of the Homer and Ruth Drake Field House was on Nov. 9, 2012 as part ofthat year's Homecoming festivities. The Drake Field House is the cornerstone of the Mercer’s Moye Football and Lacrosse Complex.
It is named for Mercer trustee W. Homer Drake Jr., and his late wife, Ruth, of Newnan. Drake is a United States bankruptcy judge for the Northern District of Georgia and a double graduate of Mercer, earning his bachelor's degree in 1954 and law degree in 1956.
The 38,000-square-foot, two-story facility includes state-of-the-art weight and training rooms for Mercer’s athletic programs. Included on the ground level are locker rooms for the men’s lacrosse and football teams, along with an equipment room and lounge area for players.
The upper level of the facility houses the football and men’s lacrosse coaches' offices, along with five individual meeting rooms and a team meeting room. Overlooking the south end zone of Five Star Stadium is the Amos-Copelan Balcony.
The Homer and Ruth Drake Field House also houses a branch of Mercer Medicine, which provides physical therapy support to the student-athletes and the general public.
The Drake Field House was designed by McMillan-Pazdan-Smith Architecture of Spartanburg, S.C., and the general contractor was Chris R. Sheridan & Co. of Macon.
