MACON, Ga. - The Mercer offense exploded for 24 runs on 21 hits in a 24-1 blowout victory over Florida A&M on Tuesday evening at Claude Smith Field.
The 24 runs scored by the Bears and the 23-run margin of victory are both the most since a 27-1 win over Savannah State in 2008.
Overall, Mercer's 24 runs is the fifth-highest run scoring total by a team in a single game and the Bears 23-run margin of victory is the second largest total in the nation this season.
Mercer (9-2) scored at least two runs in all six innings and put together four frames of at least four runs or more.
Junior Jacob Tanis had a monster day at the dish, going three-for-five with two doubles, a home run and four runs scored while tying his career-high with seven RBI. Senior Thomas Carroll was not far behind, going a perfect four-for-four at the plate with a double, a home run and four RBI.
Every Bears starting position player had at least one hit in the contest and even pitcher Tyler Beesley got into the act picking up his first career hit and RBI in the contest.
Freshman Brandon Barker collected the win, the first of his collegiate career, after allowing one earned run on three hits in three predetermined innings.
Senior Russell Moses, sophomore David Teasley and freshman DJ Johnson finished the game off on the mound; allowing no runs on just one hit over the final four frames.
Mercer pitching as a whole has now allowed just five runs, only two of which were earned, in its last 41.0 innings pitched.
The Bears now turn their attention to A-Sun Conference play which begins this weekend with a three-game set in Nashville against Belmont. Game one of the series is scheduled for a 4 p.m. start.
