
Softball Looks to Rebound Against Bison

MACON, Ga. – The Mercer softball team takes on the Lipscomb Bisons for a crucial weekend series. Game times are set for Saturday at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m.
Last Time Out
The Bears took on the University of North Florida last weekend and dropped all three games to the Ospreys.
In the first game, the Bears dropped a close 5-4 decision in a game that would see nine innings of play. Junior Krista Kennedy led the way behind three hits and one RBI. Junior McKenzie Woody and freshmen Ashton Holt and Natalie Shiver also contributed two hits in the losing effort.
Junior Julia Rice earned the start for the Bears facing 29 batters while striking out one.
Game two of the series saw Mercer produce little offensively as the Bears were defeated 12-3.
Sophomore Rachel Hugghins and juniors McKenzie Woody and Randi Rea each contributed two hits in the loss.
Three pitchers saw time in the match as senior Kerri Nidiffer, junior Julia Rice and junior Kristen Bretscher all saw time on the mound.
The third and final game of the series was another tight one as the Bears fell 5-4.
Four Bears registered multiple hits in the game. Juniors McKenzie Woody, Krista Kennedy and Randi Rea and freshman Kaytlin Haney all produced two hits.
Both Nidiffer and Rice saw time on the mound.
Scouting the Bisons
Lipscomb comes into the series with the Bears with a big series victory over No. 24 ranked USC Upstate.
The Bisons currently sit fourth in the Atlantic Sun standings.
Brittany Elmore leads the way for the Bisons with a .340 batting average and 27 stolen bases on the year. Paige Neely is not far behind Elmore with a .313 batting average.
Heather Parker boasts a 2.40 ERA so far this year. Parker has pitched 13 complete games and has four saves accredited to her.
Also on the mound for the Bisons is Tanner Sanders. Sanders has appeared in 27 games for the Bisons and has a 3.18 ERA.
Lipscomb leads the conference with 81 total bases stolen this season.
